Job summary

The Museum of Science in Boston is seeking an experienced HVAC Mechanic to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the Museum’s mechanical systems. You will perform maintenance on complex HVAC and building infrastructure systems, ensuring a comfortable and efficient environment for visitors and staff.

This role involves collaborating with tradespeople and facilities staff, maintaining accurate maintenance documentation, and responding to both routine and emergency requests. A minimum of 3 years’ experience and demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills are essential, along with an EPA/CFC license preference.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining building mechanical systems or related mechanical trades experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • EPA/CFC license preferred OR ability to obtain within first 12 months.
  • Ability to respond to facility needs outside of scheduled hours when required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, diagnostic, and corrective maintenance on HVAC and building mechanical systems.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms and operational needs through the Building Management System (BMS).
  • Prioritize and respond to service requests to minimize downtime.
  • Work with licensed tradespeople and facilities staff for maintenance activities.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, equipment histories, and repair records.
  • Respond to emergency incidents including fire alarms and building evacuations.
  • Ensure maintenance shops and facilities areas remain clean and organized.
