Job summary

Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY is seeking a General HVAC Technician to perform preventative maintenance, respond to work orders, and repair HVAC systems. The successful candidate will be a team player with integrity, able to work under discretion and maintain confidentiality for all Facilities Department matters.

Primary duties include routine servicing, troubleshooting, reading drawings, and maintaining schedules for HVAC equipment.

Qualifications

• Trade or vocational school graduate, successful completion of apprenticeship, or applicable experience.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in related HVAC work.
• Ability to work indoors in cramped spaces and outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and installation of HVAC components including compressors, valves, coils, heat pumps, motors, belts, bearings, fans, filters, wiring, and control systems.
• Performs routine and emergency repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning systems and components.
• Interprets engineering drawings and equipment manuals for HVAC systems.
• Performs replacement of minor parts/components for HVAC systems.
• Sets and maintains equipment-operating schedules and ensures timely completion of work.
• Responds to emergency work; may include off hours and weekends.
• Works with snow shoveling crew during snow events.

Status: Full Time, 40 Hours, Non-Exempt

General Description

Participate and work in the field as needed to complete Preventative Maintenance work orders including but not limited to changing filters, belts, cleaning fan coil units, repairing and replacing basic components of HVAC systems. Respond to daily work orders and make needed repairs to HVAC systems.

The successful candidate will possess strong multitasking skills and unquestionable integrity, be a good listener, be a team player, and maintain confidentiality for all aspects of the Facilities Department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and installation of heating, ventilating and cooling and components. Including: compressors, valves, coils, heat pumps, motors, belts, bearings, fans, filters, wiring, and control systems.
• Performs routine and emergency repairs to same, as well preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning systems and components.
• Interprets engineering drawings and equipment manuals of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and component parts.
• Performs replacement of minor parts/components for HVAC systems.
• Sets and maintains equipment-operating schedules.
• Provides recommendations regarding systems maintenance and repairs.
• Evaluate, maintain and update preventative maintenance tasks and schedules. Ensure all work is completed correctly and in a timely fashion.
• Must respond to emergency work and projects as needed including off hours and weekends.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• Works with the snow shoveling crew during snow events.

Requirements

• Trade or vocational school graduate, successful completion of apprenticeship, or applicable experience.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in related HVAC work.
• Ability to work indoors in cramped, crowded spaces, usually not air conditioned.
• Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather, at ground level and on roofs.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull a variety of tools, equipment and material.
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.
• Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check.

Hours:

Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.

Weekend and Overtime as deemed necessary.

Must work all Major College Events that fall on weekends/holidays
