Job summary

Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, seeks a skilled HVAC technician to perform diagnostic evaluations, preventative maintenance, and repairs across campus building systems, including HVAC, BMS, refrigeration, electrical and plumbing components.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license, and licenses (RJ2 or PJ2) or willingness to obtain. EPA certification preferred. Candidates must live within daily commuting distance to the Providence campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Moderate experience with HVAC mechanicals, controls and BMS, troubleshooting & diagnostics.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• RJ2 or PJ2 license or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• EPA Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs HVAC maintenance and preventative maintenance campus-wide.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses HVAC system issues to identify repair or replacement needs.
• Inspects HVAC systems and components, evaluating condition and recommending repairs or replacements.
• Maintains mechanical equipment and adheres to safety protocols.
• Responds to HVAC maintenance emergencies and conducts routine building inspections.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

Performs diagnostic evaluations, preventative maintenance and HVAC repairs related to the university's building systems and related components, including but not limited to the maintenance, inspection and testing of HVAC systems, HVAC control systems, building mechanical systems (BMS), refrigeration, as well as electrical and plumbing systems, and their associated equipment and instrumentation

Essential Job Functions

• Performs HVAC maintenance work and preventative maintenance across the campus
• Trouble shoots and diagnoses the cause of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems to identify equipment and/or systems repair or replacement needs
• Conducts inspections for HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.), evaluating condition and identifying necessary repairs and make recommendations for corrective maintenance or replacement, as appropriate
• Maintains mechanical equipment in proper working order and reviews and executes appropriate safety protocols
• Responds to HVAC maintenance emergencies and conducts routine building inspections to make sure the university systems are operating efficiently
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Moderate amount of experience working inHVAC Mechanical, Controls and Building Management Systems, troubleshooting and diagnostics or other related experience
• Valid U.S. driver's license
• RI Refrigeration Journeyperson II (RJ2) or Pipefitter Journeyperson II (PJ2) license or willingness to obtain upon hire
