Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee – Department of Energy
Type: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift
Compensation: $35.22 per hour

Responsibilities
- Connect HVAC components to control panels, install air and water filters, and inject refrigerant to test systems.
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges, adjust controls, test for gas leaks, and secure insulation.
- Replace defective control components and repair installed units, including large air conditioners up to twenty tons.
- Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
- Utilize wire diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and drawings for repairs and maintenance.
- Install and clean air and water filters, and program thermostats.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts.
- Communicate with customers about repairs, determine needs, and explain additional work.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints, ensuring completed work meets quality standards.
- Diagnose HVAC issues, propose solutions, and coordinate repair estimates with schedulers.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of HVAC experience.
- Must obtain and maintain an HVAC and/or EPA certification; journeyman certification preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain an “L” level security clearance with the Department of Energy.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours.
- Routine climbing in and out of vehicles and stairs.
- Perseverance to work under pressure for extended periods.
Additional Requirements
- Valid state driver’s license with coverage under Tessera’s insurance.
- Real‑ID compliant driver’s license or acceptable alternative (U.S. passport or military ID) for federal installation access.
- Background check and E‑Verify will be conducted.
- DOE pre‑employment medical examination and drug screening are required.
