Building Automation & Controls Technician (HVAC/BAS)

Salary Range: $61,000–$81,000 (DOE)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation & Controls Technician to install, program, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC controls, and DDC systems throughout Virginia. This hands‑on field position is ideal for a technician with experience in Tridium Niagara, Honeywell WEBS, Johnson Controls (JCI), BACnet, LON, pneumatic/electronic controls, and commercial HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, program, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair BAS and HVAC control systems
- Program and modify HVAC equipment, controllers, and sequences of operation
- Service DDC, pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems
- Perform system startup, functional testing, troubleshooting, and integration
- Diagnose system performance issues using TAB techniques and diagnostic tools
- Troubleshoot sensors, actuators, controls communications, and field devices
- Read and interpret blueprints, controls drawings, as-builts, specifications, and submittals
- Work with Tridium Niagara N4, Honeywell WEBS, JCI FX, BACnet, LON, and similar platforms
- Coordinate with engineers, vendors, contractors, customers, and internal teams
- Maintain accurate service and project documentation
- Follow all safety and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- 4+ years of HVAC or BAS/controls experience
- 2+ years of automated controls experience or equivalent technical training
- Experience with Tridium Niagara, Honeywell WEBS, JCI FX, BACnet, and/or LON
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, including:
- VAV systems
- Chillers
- Boilers
- Water‑source heat pumps
- Air handling systems
- Knowledge of single-phase and three-phase electrical systems
- Strong BAS, HVAC, electrical, and controls troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and controls drawings
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High school diploma or GED; trade or technical education preferred
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Strong communication, computer, and documentation skills
Tridium Niagara N4 Certification is a plus.

- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and standing
- Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, commercial facilities, rooftops, and outdoor environments
- Flexibility to work varying schedules based on customer and project requirements
