Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to install, program, commission, troubleshoot, and repair building automation systems (BAS) and digital control networks. This specialized position combines HVAC mechanical systems with computerized controls to improve building performance, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and indoor air quality across commercial facilities.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with DDC controls, building automation systems, low-voltage wiring, and HVAC control networks, along with strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- System Programming: Write, modify, test, and troubleshoot operational sequences and programming for Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and controllers.
- Installation & Commissioning: Install and terminate control panels, sensors, actuators, and other control components; pull and terminate low-voltage wiring; and verify end-to-end system operation.
- Controls Integration & Networking: Configure and connect field devices and controllers using industry-standard communication protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
- System Graphics: Develop, update, and maintain user-friendly BAS graphics, dashboards, and system interfaces for facility managers and building operators.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve control system issues, communication failures, faulty sensors, network connectivity problems, programming errors, and other system malfunctions.
- System Startup: Assist with equipment startup, functional testing, point-to-point verification, and system commissioning.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of system configurations, programming changes, wiring, commissioning activities, and service work.
- Customer Support: Communicate professionally with customers and facility personnel regarding system operation, troubleshooting, repairs, and recommended solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 2-5+ years of hands-on experience working with building automation systems, DDC controls, HVAC controls, or commercial HVAC networks.
- HVAC Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, control sequences, and the relationship between mechanical systems and building automation.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical and low-voltage control schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation.
- Networking Knowledge: Working knowledge of IT networking concepts and communication protocols used in building automation systems.
- Troubleshooting: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, communication, sensor, and control-loop issues.
- Certifications: Valid EPA Section 608 certification preferred. Manufacturer-specific controls or BAS certifications are highly valued.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and interact professionally with customers and team members.

- Ability to climb ladders and work safely at heights.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, equipment areas, and other commercial facility environments.
- Ability to routinely stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in various positions while performing installations and service.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions commonly found in mechanical rooms and commercial facilities.
