Position Summary:
T he HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the Ports of Entry. This role ensures that all systems operate efficiently and comply with safety and environmental standards.
Duties and Responsibility:
- Perform inspections of all mechanical equipment
- Verify the energy managements system is operating correctly
- Monitor space temperatures frequently and make necessary adjustments
- Perform PM work orders in the NCMMS system, closeout completed work orders
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
- Monitor and adjust system controls to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance.
- Respond promptly to service requests and emergency calls during regular hours and on-call rotations.
- Collaborate with other facilities staff and contractors to support operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain blueprints, schematics and manufacturer's instruction
- Knowledgeable of theory related to HVAC Systems including repairs, controls, and pneumatic controls for capability of planning, scheduling, and inspecting work, to include electronic circuitry, pneumatic and electronic control systems
- Knowledge of fire detection and alarm basics
- Ability to supervise and monitor sub-contractors as they perform cleaning and or mechanical repairs at this facility
- Computer skills in Windows, Excel spreadsheets and Power Point
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in maintenance or related field preferred
- 2–3 years’ experience in basic electrical, mechanical, and computer technology experience.
- Certified HVAC Technician (EPA regulations)
Conditions of Employment
- May be required to serve a probationary period.
- An Employment and Financial Interest Statement is required.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Must have the HSPD-12 clearance, preliminary background check and drug screen.
- The HSPD-12 is the background check in compliance to the Customs and Border Patrol/LPOE standard.
Clearance Required:
Must be able to pass a government background investigation.
