HVAC Technician
FSI is looking to hire an HVAC Technician to join our team.
Job Summary
The HVAC Technician will tend to heat exchangers, ventilation & cooling equipment such as fans, cooling towers, building automation systems and controllers, chillers, supply and return ducts, split type systems, and data systems with humidity controls. Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems. Clean, adjust, and repair systems, and perform warranty services. You may be asked to switch to 2nd or 3rd shift at any point during the contract, based on the government contract.
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Install, service, and repair environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
- Maintain refrigerant inventory and usage records.
- Mount compressors and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
- Install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems, using hand tools.
- Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
- Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solder joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
- Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source.
- Install air and water filters in completed installation.
- Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
- Test joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap and water solution.
- Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them with cement or wire bands.
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
- Maintain, repair, and service air conditioners, chillers, control motors, damper motors, fire and smoke dampers, humidifiers/dehumidifiers, and split type systems.
- Lubricate bearings and motors as required by the manufacturer and standards, removing excess grease, oil, and dirt.
- Repair electrical connections to ensure secure connections and prevent stress on wires.
- Ensure the equipment and surroundings are clean and free of debris.
- Maintain interior air boxes, dampers, louvers, fans, and drain pans clean and dust-free.
- Keep motor controllers clean and dust-free.
- Monitor and maintain chemical treatment levels in closed-loop systems.
- Utilize lockout/tagout procedures.
- Assist with salting and snow removal.
Education and Work Experience Requirements
- Certification by recognized HVAC programs such as NATE, HVAC Excellence, ICC, or documented Journeyman status, DD214 Level Five or higher, EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of four years in the HVAC trade with universal certification credentials.
- Two to three years of experience in healthcare facilities.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to pass drug screen and background check.
- Possess or obtain NACI clearance.
- All relevant state or federal licenses or certificates required by the contract.
