Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a skilled HVAC Tech 2 to maintain and optimize campus heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role supports education, research, and healthcare operations across UNM facilities and potentially the Health Sciences Center areas.

Ideal candidates hold a New Mexico Journeyman's Refrigeration License and EPA certification, with 4+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
At least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Possession of a current New Mexico State Journeyman's Refrigeration License (JR) and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification.

Responsibilities

Perform troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low-pressure steam, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic/digital controls.
Conduct HVAC system inspections and perform manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance.
Replace major components in coordination with energy management and control system operators.
Lead seasonal overhauls and guide repair teams during transitions between heating and cooling.
Monitor and adjust system setpoints and outputs using remote links and programmable logic controllers.
