Job summary

ABM Industries is seeking a Facility Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems in various facilities in Palo Alto. You will diagnose issues, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires EPA 608 certification and HVAC training, with a valid driver's license. Daily responsibilities include reading blueprints, maintaining records, and communicating clearly with customers and team members.

Qualifications

• HVAC certification, technical school training, or apprenticeship completion preferred.
• EPA Section 608 Certification (required for handling refrigerants).
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Experience servicing commercial and/or residential HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of HVAC electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems.
• Ability to use diagnostic and testing equipment safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance to extend equipment life and improve system performance.
• Repair or replace defective components, including motors, compressors, thermostats, fans, and controls.
• Inspect and test HVAC systems to verify proper operation and energy efficiency.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and maintenance logs.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
• Communicate effectively with customers, facility managers, and team members regarding system issues and recommended solutions.
• Respond to emergency service calls and equipment failures as needed.
• Monitor inventory of tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
