University of Central Florida is seeking an HVAC Specialist to support maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings, ensuring a safe, functional, and comfortable environment.

The role involves troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance on water source heat pumps, direct expansion, and electrical/plumbing systems, and addressing on-call emergencies as needed. Candidates should have intermediate HVAC skills and EPA–related training.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in HVAC or a HS diploma with 4 years of relevant experience.
• EPA certification or training in HVAC maintenance is desirable.
• 3–5 years hands-on experience performing preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems per planned work orders.
• Address corrective repairs promptly to restore functionality.
• Calibrate controls to maintain design temperature and humidity.
• Check refrigerant charges and pressures per EPA 608.
• Repair HVAC components such as air systems, compressors, and controls.
• Assist in project planning for asset maintenance.
• Update data in IWMS and fulfill work requests via IWMS.

The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic team as an HVAC Specialist. This position provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings, aiming to ensure a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. You will troubleshoot issues, provide service, and respond to requests from customers and staff. This role requires readiness to address emergencies or unforeseen situations. Assignments may rotate to meet departmental needs and encourage cross‑training.

At this level the employee is required to have intermediate skills on HVAC and refrigeration systems, including but not limited to, water source heat pumps, direct expansion, and electrical, plumbing systems. Ensure all components adhere to national and state codes. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to HVAC systems. On-call responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems through planned and scheduled work orders.
• Address corrective repairs promptly to restore functionality.
• Calibrate controls to maintain design temperature and humidity.
• Check refrigerant charges and pressures, ensuring compliance with EPA Section 608.
• Conduct repairs on various HVAC components, including air systems, compressors, controls, and more.
• Assist in project planning for asset maintenance.
• Update and maintain data in the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS).
• Fulfill work requests assigned through IWMS.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of hands‑on experience performing preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems.
• EPA Certification or training in HVAC maintenance practices is desirable.
• Practical experience in checking refrigerant charges and pressures, as well as handling and disposing of refrigerants safely.
• Skilled in conducting repairs on a wide range of HVAC components, including air systems, compressors, and controls.
• Basic communication skills in English to work effectively with customers and operate electronic equipment.
• Ability to work in extreme environments and collaborate within individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.

Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

• The anticipated salary range for this position is $26.83 to $35.89. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
• Position requires a valid driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
• May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination and training in use of respirators.
