HVAC Service Technician and HVAC Residential/Commercial Installer: Key Responsibilities, Required Skills & Qualifications, Certifications (required, or willing to obtain).
HVAC Service Technician Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment and appliances (furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, etc.)
- Perform preventative maintenance and system inspections
- Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding system issues, solutions, and costs
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation
- Ensure all work meets local, state, and federal codes and safety standards
- Collaborate with dispatch and service management to ensure efficient scheduling
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance and work environment
HVAC Residential/Commercial Installer Key Responsibilities:
Installation Tasks:
- Install new HVAC systems (furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, mini splits) in residential and commercial settings
- Lay out and install ductwork, ventilation, and piping systems to manufacturer specs and local codes
- Set up thermostats, zone controls, and wiring for system operation
- Perform start-up procedures and ensure proper system operation after installation
- Replace outdated or inefficient HVAC units with modern, high-efficiency systems
Technical Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Measure, cut, and fit sheet metal, PVC, or copper for custom installations
- Ensure all installations meet local, state, and federal codes
- Safely handle and install refrigerants following EPA regulations
- Test systems and components using tools such as multimeters, gauges, and vacuum pumps
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in residential or light commercial HVAC service
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions

Certifications Required, or willing to obtain:
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal license required)
- NATE Certification (not required but preferred)
- R-410A Safety Training (not required but preferred)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (not required but preferred)
