Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking motivated apprentices to join our growing HVAC team. You will undergo apprenticeship training, learn on-site HVAC equipment and controls, and participate in the Service Technical Academy to develop skills and advance within the company.

Expect coaching, mentorship, and opportunities for recognition and progression. A valid driver’s license is required and union affiliation is supported.

Qualifications

• Must be a member or willing to join the local union.
• Tech Savvy, using AI tools and handheld devices.
• Mechanical HVAC systems knowledge and related facilities management skills.
• Solid understanding of site preparation and peripheral equipment installation/servicing.
• Strong interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally.
• Leadership to support mechanics on non-complex HVAC work sites.
• Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision over time.
• Safety is a top priority and a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Attend Apprentice School 2 nights a week in Richmond is mandatory.
• Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Apprentices will participate in certifiedtrainingthrough Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets to provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards and advancement.
• Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues as well as customer needs.
• You will keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
• You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training for first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensurefacilityis running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

• Generally required knowledge includes mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
• Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
• Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on a job site
• Self-starter with ability to eventually work independently.
• Prioritize safety in all forms.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.

Pay Range

$19.80 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
