Job summary

Johnson Controls Inc is seeking energetic apprentices to learn and work on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls at customer sites. You will participate in the Service Technical Academy (STA) to gain hands-on skills and progress within a safety-minded team.

As you grow, you’ll troubleshoot issues, collaborate with technicians and customers, and contribute to improving facility operations. A valid driver’s license is required, and union training is part of the first-year program.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of industry experience or servicing mechanical HVAC systems.
• 1–2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Strong safety orientation and reliability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Apprentices will be trained and perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls at client sites.
• Participate in Service Technical Academy (STA) certified training to build skills and enable advancement.
• Through coaching and mentorship, develop skills to troubleshoot technical issues and address customer needs.
• Keep JCI, contractors, and customers informed of job progress and issues as needed.
• Meet attendance requirements for required Union training in the first year.
• Provide recommendations to improve facility efficiency and upsell opportunities when appropriate.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

How will you do it

• Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Apprentices will participate in certified training through Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets to provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards and advancement.
• Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues as well as customer needs.
• You will keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
• You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training for first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure the facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.

What we look for

• Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
• 1+ years of industry experience or experience in servicing mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
• Generally required knowledge includes mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
• Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
• Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on a job site
• Self-starter with ability to eventually work independently.

• Prioritize safety in all forms.
• This position requires a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

• 1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.

*This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Pay Range: Hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.

This is a Bargaining Unit Position but is subject to all pre-hiring screening of JCI. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program, as well as continued employment at JCI. Acceptance by Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination of this position. This is not a guaranty of employment or entering the Union. The Union has its own entry, qualification & screening programs.
