Job summary

Havtech in Columbia, MD is seeking a Commercial HVAC Field Service Engineer. The role performs service and maintenance on major HVAC equipment, including retrofit and repair of environmental systems, with a focus on customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate’s Degree or equivalent with HVAC certification, is a UA Local 602 member or able to join, and possesses MD/VA journeyman license; willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a technical/trade school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and eight (8) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • EPA Certification.
  • HVAC Journeyman license in MD/VA required.
  • Applicant must be a current member or able to join UA Local 602.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the company by serving as a direct customer contact.
  • Servicing all products and equipment on assigned projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Diagnoses and repairs HVAC systems on customer sites using blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacements, and modifications as needed; coordinates on-site work.
  • Prepares for on-site installation by examining building layout and gathering materials.
  • Maintains documentation and paperwork for each job and keeps files up to date.
  • Keeps current on Havtech products and provides technical support to customers.
  • Travel with some overnight stays and flexibility to work overtime as necessary.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY: COMMERCIAL HVAC FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER

A successful Journeyman HVAC Service Technician will perform all work in the service and maintenance field on all major types of HVAC equipment. Responsible for retrofit and repair of environmental-comfort systems, utilizing knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, and mechanical layouts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Represents the company by serving as a direct customer contact.
  • Projects a positive, friendly and professional image on behalf of the organization.
  • Responsible for servicing all products and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Uses a variety of hand-tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
  • Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and products at customer’s location.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
  • Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and coordinating on-site work, as necessary.
  • Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition.
  • Maintains literature, supplies, service manuals and related service bulletins.
  • Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, scheduling, and complete repairs and maintenance service.
  • Maintains equipment by inspecting for signs of ware. Notifies customer and/or Project Manager of findings.
  • Legibly documents work by completing paperwork on each job and maintaining files.
  • Provides re-training and follow-up training at customer site.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment toward the job, mission and values of the company.
  • Determines parts to order for repairs and timeliness of need.
  • Documents work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, progress, and duration; and maintaining files.
  • Keep and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Operate all company owned equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Records parts, material, labor, subs and other cost data per assignment and returns unused resources.
  • Turns in all required paperwork and reports daily.
  • Keeps current on all Havtech Manufacturer's products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service and repair.
  • Read and interpret product specifications and experience in working with building specifications, drawings and designs.
  • Provides technical support to customers.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends as necessary.
  • Regular travel requirements with some overnight travel
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications/ Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a Technical/Trade School with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and eight (8) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record for state of residence.
  • EPA Certification.
  • HVAC Journeyman license in MD/or Virginia required.
  • Additional license; Boiler Operator, Gas Installer, etc. preferred.
  • Applicant must be a current member or be able to successfully join UA Local 602.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. On occasion lift and/or move more than 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
