  • Work in heat plant environment with heat/steam exposure; confined spaces.
  • On-call rotation; nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair refrigeration and cooling equipment on campus; inspect chillers; service related equipment.
  • Maintain and repair steam boilers and heating equipment; monitor boiler operations and safety tests.
  • Maintain and repair air handling, exhaust, and ventilation equipment; service controls and lab fume hoods.
  • Operate and maintain building controls systems, BACnet, and Siemens Desigo BAS Controls; update alarm logs.
  • Operate and maintain pool controls and equipment; daily water testing and chemistry.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to provide space comfort for the entire campus communityand the buildings they occupy. The person in this role will install, maintain, andservice building and departmental heating ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigerationequipment. This position coordinates work with other trades and must be certifiedto perform work to levels set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. The personin this role must be able to diagnose complex equipment problems, use sophisticateddiagnostic equipment and EPA approved refrigerant reclaim equipment. Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and repair refrigeration and cooling equipment; conduct seasonal chiller inspections and related operations/maintenance; maintainand repair refrigeration equipment on campus in accordance with EPA specified guidelines;maintain and repair air and water cooled equipment; maintain and repair ice machines,drinking fountains, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Maintain and repair steam boilers and heating equipment; daily operation of boilers includes keeping operational log, conduct boiler chemistry,and safety testing; maintain and repair main district boilers and steam/condensateloop; conduct yearly steam shutdown and related steam loop and system repairs; maintainand repair all remote boilers, gas and electric heating equipment
  • Maintain and repair air handling, exhaust, and ventilation equipment; install, troubleshoot and maintain air handling units, exhaust systems, and rooftopunits; operate and repair controls on all air handling, exhaust and ventilation systems;troubleshoot, repair and maintain lab fume hoods and all auxiliary air handling equipment
  • Operate and maintain building controls systems; troubleshoot, repair, and maintain pneumatic and DDC systems on campus; interactwith and troubleshoot BACnet control systems, issues with ALC, Alpha Controls, andSiemens Desigo BAS Controls; update and maintain HVAC-R building alarm logs
  • Operate and maintain pool controls and equipment; conduct daily testing of pool water and chemistry; troubleshoot, repair, and maintainpool filtration equipment, heating equipment, pumps, and controls
Requirements and Knowledge:
  • A high school diploma/GED required
  • Completed apprenticeship program preferred
  • 5 years of HVAC experience
  • EPA Certification required; Certified Pool Operator must be obtained within 1 yearof hiring
  • Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, often with equipment. Ability to lift50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform duties within the environment of a heat plant, exposure to extremeheat and active steam lines. Must work in confined spaces.
  • Awareness of and adherence to safety protocols are of paramount importance.
  • This position requires an on-call rotation among crew members; occasional nights andweekends
