Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking an Advanced Journeyman HVAC/Refrigeration Master Mechanic for on-site work at the 1139 Facility Services Central Shop. The role focuses on maintenance of complex HVAC and refrigeration systems, with preventive tasks such as filter changes, belt replacements, and lubrication.

The position requires independent work with minimal supervision to troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, pumps, motors, piping, and control equipment.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
• EPA Certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Overhauls large HVAC and refrigeration equipment and large walk-in food coolers and freezers; performs preventative maintenance such as coolant changes, belt changes, air filter changes, lubricants and chemicals.
• Investigates and makes general advanced repairs to buildings' air conditioning/heating systems and related mechanical equipment with minimal supervision.
• Recharges air conditioning systems with proper lubricants and refrigerants; performs air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
• Installs, replaces, adjusts and calibrates major components of refrigeration units including compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils and drive assemblies.
• Overhauls and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping and other equipment used in refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
• Works with other journeymen to troubleshoot and repair control systems.
• Assists in training HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and apprentices; may oversee subordinate workers.
• Performs other duties as assigned, including on-call and emergency work.

Job Description: This is a Advanced Journeyman position in our HVAC department. This position requires basic skills in the maintenance of complex HVAC and refrigeration equipment including preventative maintenance duties.

Job Duties

• 30%- Overhauls large HVAC and refrigeration equipment and large walk-in food coolers and freezers. Performs preventative maintenance duties such as coolant, change & adjust belts, change air filters and service equipment with lubricants and chemicals.
• 30% This position requires working independently with minimal supervision to investigate make general advance repairs to buildings' air conditioning/heating systems and other related mechanical equipment such as freezers, fans, etc.
• 10% Recharges air conditioning system with proper amount of lubricant and refrigerant. Performs air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
• 10% Installs, replaces, adjusts and calibrates major components of refrigeration units: compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils and drive assemblies.
• 5% Overhauls and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping and other equipment used in refrigerating and air conditioning systems.
• 5% Works along side of other advance journeymen to troubleshoot and repair control systems.
• 5% Assist in the training of HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and apprentices. Occasionally oversees work of subordinate HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and apprentices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.

Salary Range

• Range Minimum/SER: $22.52/hr.
• 1st Quartile: $27.03/hr.
• Midpoint: $31.53/hr.
• 3rd Quartile: $36.03/hr.
• Maximum: $40.53/hr. Hourly rate may be commensurate with candidate's experience in alignment with Chapter 6 rules.
