Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of General Services seeks an HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic to support essential building systems in Harrisburg facilities.

You will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment, evaluate issues, replace components, and coordinate with contractors. The role is in-office with full-time hours 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; telework not offered.

Qualifications

• Two years of HVAC/refrigeration maintenance experience.
• Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification within 6 months.
• Active motor vehicle license required.

Responsibilities

• Equipment evaluation: assess comfort issues and adjust as needed.
• Preventative maintenance: replace filters, clean coils, inspect components.
• Testing: use meters to measure performance and identify readings.
• System repairs: fix HVAC components like valves, motors, dampers, fans.
• Installation work: install basic HVAC units including split/window systems.
• Refrigerant handling: prepare disposal and recover refrigerants per EPA rules.
