Job summary

Fairmont Austin is seeking a skilled Commercial HVAC, Refrigeration, and Kitchen Equipment Technician to join our Engineering team. This role installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and food service equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation across the property.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, EPA Universal Certification, and a strong ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Commercial HVAC, Refrigeration, and Kitchen Equipment Technician to join our Engineering team. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and food service equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation throughout the property. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and committed to delivering exceptional service while working independently and collaboratively.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues; replace defective components; test for leaks; calibrate equipment; and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications to complete repairs accurately.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, work orders, parts used, and equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and environmental regulations, including the proper handling and disposal of refrigerants and other hazardous materials.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Respond promptly to radio calls, guest service requests, and work orders, completing assigned tasks within established service standards while maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Communicate repair status, equipment concerns, and recommended solutions effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments.
  • Provide professional, engaging, and friendly service to internal and external guests while collaborating with colleagues to support hotel operations.
  • Train and mentor Engineering team members as needed.
  • Assist with general Engineering Department functions, including basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and other building maintenance tasks.
  • Prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining high standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • HVAC/Refrigeration certification preferred.
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, components, and applicable safety standards.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, computer-based diagnostic tools, reading blueprints and technical diagrams, and using industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and recordkeeping skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize multiple tasks, and respond effectively to emergency repairs.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Ability to train and mentor fellow Engineering colleagues.
  • Well-rounded technical proficiency across engineering disciplines with a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance systems.
  • Previous hotel or hospitality engineering experience preferred.

  • Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling, sitting
