Job summary

The HVAC/R Mechanic at The Culinary Institute of America operates under the HVAC/R Supervisor to inspect, maintain, repair and install HVAC/R systems at the Hyde Park campus. The role requires coordinating work with the supervisor and ensuring safety and quality in all tasks.

Ideal candidates have a High School diploma or equivalent, plus HVAC/R trade education or equivalent experience, and at least five years in the HVAC/R trade under a licensed contractor. Valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams and manuals.
• Experience using hand tools, electrical meters, refrigeration gauges and brazing torches.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and drive to campus sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair and diagnose HVAC/R equipment and controls.
• Coordinate work priorities with HVAC/R Supervisor while minimizing disruption to classes.
• Document work orders with parts used, time taken and next steps.
• Ensure safety standards per CIA and governing agencies are followed.
• Assist external contractors and monitor their safety and work quality.
• Occasionally support special event setups and after-hours work as needed.
