Job summary

Walker White Mechanical in Columbia, SC is seeking an experienced HVAC Project Manager to lead commercial mechanical construction projects from planning through completion. You will act as the primary client liaison, coordinate field personnel, and manage budgets, schedules, and quality control.

• Strong knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, cost control

Responsibilities

• Oversee commercial HVAC/mechanical construction projects from initiation to closeout
• Develop and maintain schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans
• Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams for efficient execution
• Serve as primary liaison between owners, contractors, engineers, and stakeholders
• Prepare and manage project docs: RFIs, submittals, change orders, POs, closeout docs
• Monitor costs, profitability, cash flow, and overall project performance
• Identify risks and implement proactive mitigation
• Ensure compliance with contract, quality, and safety standards
• Lead project meetings and provide regular updates to leadership and clients
• Foster strong client relationships for repeat business

Position Summary

The HVAC Project Manager is responsible for overseeing commercial mechanical construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients, field teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders while driving successful project execution from start to finish.

What You'll Do

• Manage commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects through all phases, from preconstruction to closeout
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans
• Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure efficient project execution
• Serve as the primary liaison between owners, general contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders
• Prepare and manage project documentation, including:
  • RFIs
  • Submittals
  • Change orders
  • Purchase orders
  • Closeout documentation
• Monitor job costs, profitability, cash flow, and overall project performance
• Identify project risks and implement proactive solutions to minimize delays and cost impacts
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, and safety expectations
• Conduct project meetings and provide regular updates to leadership and clients
• Foster strong customer relationships that support repeat business and long-term partnerships

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of project management experience within HVAC, mechanical construction, plumbing, or related construction trades
• Proven track record of successfully managing commercial construction projects from initiation to completion
• Strong knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
• Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documents
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
• Commitment to safety, accountability, and quality workmanship
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is a plus but not required
