Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking HVAC apprentices to train and work on client sites, learning from industry leaders and earning union-backed certification through the Service Technical Academy.

You will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues and customer needs, with opportunities for advancement and performance-based rewards. This bargaining unit position emphasizes safety, punctuality, and professional conduct while supporting building systems and energy efficiency

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of industry experience or servicing mechanical HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems and facilities management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls ethically.
  • Leadership to support activities on non-complex HVAC equipment.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Apprentices will be trained and perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
  • Enter the Service Technical Academy training to build skills for advancement.
  • Through coaching, troubleshoot technical issues and customer needs.
  • Keep customers advised of job progress and issues as needed.
  • Meet attendance requirements for required Union training in year one.
  • Provide recommendations to improve facility efficiency and upsell opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations.

Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service

How you will do it
  • Apprentices will be trained and will perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
  • Apprentices will participate in certified training through Service Technical Academy that will build skill sets to provide continued opportunities for recognition, monetary rewards and advancement.
  • Through coaching and mentorship, apprentices will develop skills to troubleshoot and resolve both technical issues as well as customer needs.
  • You will keep JCI, contractors, and the customer advised of job progress and issues as needed.
  • You will meet attendance requirements for required Union training for first year.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
  • This is a Bargaining Union Position
What we look for
  • 1+ years of industry experience or experience in servicing mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
  • Generally required knowledge includes mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
  • Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical mechanical HVAC equipment on a job site
  • Self-starter with ability to eventually work independently.
  • Prioritize safety in all forms.
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license.
Preferred

1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis.

*This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

Pay Range: $23.26 starting hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided

through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. However, we recognize that exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
