Melwood Horticultural Training Center Inc. seeks an experienced HVAC Technician to install, troubleshoot, and repair heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems on government contracts.
The role requires performing maintenance, wiring and controls work, and emergency services to ensure reliable operation. The ideal candidate has a High school diploma or GED with 5+ years of complex HVAC experience, including chillers and boilers, and holds a Maryland Journeyman license (Master license
Installs, troubleshoots and repairs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration units, including chillers, boilers and heat pumps
2. Troubleshoots malfunctioning heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems to determine the cause of the malfunction
3. Performs scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjusts, cleans and calibrates various systems to assure proper system operations
4. Repairs wiring and electronic components associated with automated building management systems
5. Replaces expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units and other component parts
6. Cleans refrigerant systems from hermetic burnouts, evacuates, and charges systems
7. Troubleshoots and repairs direct digital and pneumatic control systems
9. Balances air and water treatment systems
10. Determines cause of and corrects condensation problems
11. Provides technical assistance with the design of HVAC systems including installations and modifications to existing systems
12. Prepares records and reports describing procedures, actions taken and recommend solutions.
13. Prepares and submits requests for supplies and equipment
14. Responds to emergency service requests

Must be able to sit 50% of the time; stand/walk 50% of the time; must be able to lift, carry, push and or pull 30 lbs.; must be able to speak, hear and see. All of these requirements are necessary in order to properly accomplish all essential functions within this job description.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with five or more years of progressively responsible experience working with complex HVAC systems and equipment including chillers, boilers, package units, VAV systems (direct digital, pneumatic and automated control systems). Prior experience working on government contract and working with persons with differing abilities preferred.
