Job summary

Action Facilities Management, INC is seeking a skilled HVAC Journeyman to maintain, diagnose, install, and repair HVAC systems across a facility. The role emphasizes preventative maintenance and responsive service for critical environmental installations.

The position requires a valid HVAC license in VA/MD/DC, EPA Universal Certification, and at least 5 years in large-scale facilities. Union role with standard benefits and a day shift, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

  • HVAC Journeyman/Tradesman license required with VA/MD/DC eligibility.
  • EPA Universal Certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide journeyman-level HVAC maintenance, diagnostics, installation and repair.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, dehumidification and related systems.
  • Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and related components.
  • Read blueprints/schematics and work independently or in teams.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

Job Summary:The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for performing all HVAC trades functions necessary to assemble, install, maintain, and repair Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning fixtures, equipment, and systems within the Facility. This position is responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance needs of the Facility as it relates to HVAC infrastructure. The HVAC Journeyman Technician will be required to possess and maintain a Journeyman HVAC License.Pay Rate: $39.02 per hourThis will be a union positionShift: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pmEssential Job Functions:Provide Journeyman’s level HVAC maintenance support expertise on site.Performs the maintenance, diagnostic testing, overhauling, installation, and effects repairs on a large variety of types of refrigeration, dehumidification, air-conditioning, ventilation and heating systems equipment and controls within critically controlled environmental installations.Researches specifications as provided by other parties and makes installation corrections required ensuring proper function of equipment as required by tenant agency requirementsPerforms preventative maintenance functions which include, but are not limited to: changing filters; cleaning cooling towers, cleaning heating and cooling coils, etc.Responsible for emergency after hour call backs determined by facility coordinator and all other assigned duties not to exceed technical level of HVAC Mechanic LeadFunctions independently and/or in teams. Relied upon to make decisions and sound recommendations concerning HVAC operations and maintenancePerforms a wide variety of building maintenance tasks, which must be performed to proficiency including, but not limited to adjustments and repairs to HVAC and Electrical systemsFabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipmentInstalls evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand toolsCuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and toolsCuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipmentJoins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerantInstalls expansion and discharge valves in circuitConnects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power sourceInstalls air and water filters in completed installationInjects refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressureObserves pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operationTests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges, electronic leak detector, and electronic micron gauge or soap-and-water solutionWraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bandsReplaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician's hand tools and test equipment. Installs, repairs, and services all types of HVAC equipment.Other duties as assignedRequired Skills, Experience, and Education:HVAC Journeyman/ Tradesman License in Virginia, Maryland, or DC (ability to obtain VA license within 6 months of hire)Top Secret Clearance or ability to obtain clearanceHigh School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 5 years of progressive, hands-on experience in commercial or industrial facilities in a large, complex environmentEPA Universal Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)Ability to read, write, and speak EnglishAbility to communicate effectively with a variety of coworkers and government stakeholdersKnowledge of computers and basic computer applicationsAbility to read and understand blueprints and schematicsAbility to effectively complete tasks independently or in a team settingAbility to effectively utilize resources to maximize productivityAbility to work independently or as a member of a teamEquipment Used:All HVAC craft tools, test equipment, and safety gear such as:Hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, gauges or equipment such asprecision measuring instruments, electrical or electronic testing devices,protective eye wear, electrical safe tools & hand protection, safety boots,hearing protection, etc.Physical Requirements:The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing work assignments and duties, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or stoop for long periods of time. Must be capable of lifting to 75 lbs. Must be able to use arms, hands, and fingers to reach, handle, and feel. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. Must have suitable endurance to do physical labor for long periods of time. Once certified, must be willing to work in confined spaces and utilize all required PPE. Ability to safely climb and work from ladders.Working Environment:This position may require work both inside and outside the facility. This job may require work on the roof of a building or in the basement and confined spaces. May experience high levels of noise in connection to equipment and tools. May be exposed to wet or humid conditions. Must be able to perform work while wearing required PPE.
