Job summary

Wisconsin Union is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to join the Memorial Union facilities team in Madison. You will operate, repair, and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration units, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot a range of equipment from heating and cooling systems to kitchen machinery.

The role emphasizes routine maintenance, timely response to service requests, and occasional staff planning.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of building maintenance experience.
  • Experience maintaining HVAC systems.
  • Experience maintaining/repairing food service equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Works special events as required for operational needs
  • Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs
  • Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs HVAC systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures
  • Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure safe operation
  • Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
  • Develops and schedules operational work plans for staff occasionally

Job Summary

Come join the Wisconsin Union as an HVAC Mechanic within our technical maintenance department at the Memorial Union. This position is part of a team responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration units at the Memorial Union. Your role will involve conducting routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on a variety of machines from heating, cooling and ventilation systems to kitchen equipment. A successful candidate will have experience with both HVAC units as well as food service equipment. This position comes with a pension plan, sick leave, plenty of vacation time, and opportunities for professional development.

Work Schedule and Location

Monday thru Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm with a rotating weekend on-call schedule

100% on-site

Key Job Responsibilities

Compensation

The expected starting salary is $31.00/ hour. This position is also eligible for weekend and night differential pay.

Required Qualifications
  • 1 year of building maintenance experience – please detail your experience including the types of repairs or maintenance you performed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintaining and conducting the repairs of HVAC equipment
  • HVAC Trouble shooting experience
  • Maintaining and repairing food service equipment
Certifications
  • Driver’s License – Valid and meets UW Risk Management Standards – Required
  • EPA Refrigerant Handling Certification – Preferred
Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. frequently needed
