Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in commercial or healthcare facility HVAC/R maintenance.
  • Experience working in a hospital or medical facility preferred.
  • Active Refrigeration, Universal, or Healthcare Mechanic license/certification or obtained within the first two years of employment.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (EPA 608) preferred.
  • Certified HVAC Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC/R systems including air handlers, chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, VAV systems, and related components.
  • Responds promptly to urgent service requests involving HVAC issues, leaks, equipment failures, and facility emergencies.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and associated infrastructure; documents findings and initiates corrective work orders as needed.
  • Monitors, tests, and adjusts building automation systems (BAS) and environmental controls to ensure energy efficiency and optimal performance.
  • Orders and tracks inventory and parts for repairs and maintenance activities; ensures timely documentation of labor, materials, and task completion.
  • Completes Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) prior to performing work in patient care areas to maintain safety and compliance.
  • Identifies and reports potential facility issues while navigating facility spaces; creates or completes work orders to address issues found.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and compliance checks in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Job Summary

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role performs routine preventive maintenance, emergency response repairs, and system monitoring across facility equipment in alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Commitment to safety and infection prevention protocols in healthcare environments.
Licenses and Certifications
