General Summary:
TheHVAC Mechanic provides advanced technical expertise and collaborates with other management to deliver high-quality service. The position requires strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Installs, maintains, services and repairs environmental-control systems; utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. This position requires HVAC Certification and a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
Pay Rate: $30.00/hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installation, service, troubleshooting and repairs including but not limited to; chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, hot/chilled water pumps. Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program so previous experience is highly desirable.
- Tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs
- Installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters and other components in accordance with design specifications.
- Charges refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas tests for leaks.
- Starts unit and adjusts it for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
- Adjust systems for optimal performance.
- Maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems. Repairs, adjusts, or replaces defective elements.
- Installs, maintains and repairs the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, operates all types centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems; also all types of pneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls.
- Performs necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment
- Performs preventive maintenance.
- Maintain and create Activity Hazard Analysis
- Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program.
- Records all maintenance and repair work conducted.
- Assists in negotiating and coordinating all required subcontractor and vendor services
- Assists in managing various subcontractor disciplines to ensure compliance with scope of work, safety, environmental and quality control
- Assists in the development of scopes of works (SOWs); developing cost estimates; soliciting proposals from subcontractors; initiating project work; inspecting work; ensuring work is completed in accordance with the SOW and that all work is completed with quality and in a workmanlike manner.
- Responsible for ensuring procurement all parts, supplies and materials required for contractual compliance and operational fulfillment
- Will need to perform basic computer skills to keep work order logs and provide email communication when necessary.
- Assist others as part of the maintenance team as required
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in HVAC maintenance experience preferred
- 1-3 years commercial experience preferred
- Ability to implement and monitor safety programs
- Ability to perform most complex and unusual tasks of the craft without supervision.
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
- Must be able to read and understand the signs, signals, and operating instructions in use in accordance with EM 385-1-1.
- Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
- Must be able to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
- Able to troubleshoot and repair most complex problems.
- Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
- Must have EPA 608 refrigerant Certification.
- Must be certified by a nationally recognized HVAC certification program (i.e., North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or ESCO Institute HVAC Excellence Professional Level Technician Certification).
- Proficient in Microsoft in Microsoft Office Suite to include MS Word, Excel and Power Point
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English
- Must be able to pass background.
- Valid Driver License required with good driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
