Saint Francis Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England, is seeking a Mechanic II to maintain plant operations and ensure safe operation of mechanical and alarm systems across the campus.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, and life-safety systems, read and follow specifications, and keep accurate maintenance records.

This full-time day shift offers growth opportunities within the Engineering team and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Healthcare facility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain hospital mechanical and alarm systems across campus 24/7.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, PEVCO, Honeywell, and fire alarm systems per procedures.
  • Identify major problems and report to supervisor.
  • Complete and return all work orders per guidelines.
  • Assist others as workload permits.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; inspect before use.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Participate in in-service trainings; update skills.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance records per requirements.

Position Purpose:

The Mechanic II performs a variety of duties in and around the buildings of the Hospital complex to maintain Plant Operations 24/7 and ensure safe operations of all mechanical and alarm systems and equipment. Duties include maintaining and repairing machinery, systems and mechanical equipment, heating and ventilation equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, kitchen equipment, and PEVCO, Honeywell and fire alarm systems.

What you will do:
  • Assists in operating and maintaining all Hospital mechanical and alarm systems and equipment throughout the Campus 24/7.

  • Performs troubleshooting and repair to all hospital mechanical and electromechanical equipment including HVAC systems, PEVCO , Honeywell and fire alarm systems according to established procedures and manufacturer's specifications.

  • Identifies major problems and repairs and reports need to the supervisor.

  • Completes and returns all work orders according to departmental guidelines.

  • Assists others as workload permits.

  • Maintains all tools and equipment properly and inspects for proper function prior to use.

  • Maintains work area in a clean and neat manner according to department standards.

  • Participates in mandatory in-service at the Hospital. Updates technical skills to meet the maintenance requirements of new equipment. Maintains current knowledge of technical changes in equipment and technology.

  • Maintains equipment maintenance records according to departmental and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 3+ years of general mechanical systems and equipment maintenance and repair experience. Healthcare facility setting experience is preferred.

  • D-2 or S-2 License is preferred.

  • Work requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair hospital mechanical and electromechanical equipment .

  • Work requires the ability to understand and respond to simple written or verbal instructions.

  • Requires the ability to read and write English.

Physical and Mental Effort:
  • Requires independently lifting objects up to 50 lbs. and bending and stooping on a regular basis.

  • Requires climbing – ladders, scaffolding, stairs or ramps requiring a sense of balance to prevent falls.

  • Requires the ability to reach and grasp objects.

  • Requires working with equipment in restricted spaces where carelessness could result in cuts, bruises and strains.

  • Occasional exposure to eye and ear hazards requiring protective equipment.

  • Occasional exposure in close proximity to high electrical voltage which requires the use of protective equipment and safe work practices.

  • Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, eye and ear protection and other equipment as needed
