Job description

Job Title: HVAC Master Mechanic

As the HVAC Master Mechanic, you will be responsible for installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems in various settings such as residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments. Your duties include utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout, mounting compressor and condenser units, fabricating and installing ductwork, and installing evaporator units, among others.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Cutting and bending tubing to correct length and shape using appropriate equipment.
2. Cutting and threading pipe, joining tubing or pipes to refrigerating units, and soldering joints.
3. Connecting motors, compressors, and controls to control panels and power sources; installing filters; injecting refrigerant to test systems; and adding Freon gas to achieve prescribed operating pressure.
4. Monitoring pressure and vacuum gauges, adjusting controls, testing for leaks, insulating pipes, and replacing defective electrical components. May also install, repair, and service large-capacity air conditioning units.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 5 to 7 years of journey-level HVAC experience
• Completion of HVAC apprenticeship and FREON recovery certification
• Relevant professional experience may be considered

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Extensive knowledge of specialized HVAC functions.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools, interpreting codes, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
• Knowledge of ISO 9002 and JCAHO standards, pneumatic and electronic controls, and experience with Trane Tracer Summit, Honeywell, and Johnson Controls software.
• Experience with industrial water treatment, quality assurance, and inspection.
• Ability to operate and adjust boilers, service chillers up to 150 tons, and HVAC equipment efficiently.
• Knowledge of refrigerating systems, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC equipment, including chillers up to 600 tons.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

Active Top Secret clearance required.
