Job summary

GreenSavers in Portland, OR is hiring an HVAC Maintenance Technician to perform scheduled maintenance visits at customers' homes as part of our Home Performance Plan. You'll learn the equipment, check systems, spot problems, and explain findings to customers.

You will report to the Service Lead and may assist HVAC installations. This full-time hourly role involves local travel around Portland, with some days of longer shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction or maintenance or using hand and power tools.
• Ability to talk with customers and explain findings clearly.
• Dependable and organized; punctual and able to work solo or with a crew.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled maintenance on heating, cooling, and water-heating equipment.
• Identify worn parts and relay findings to customer and production team.
• Explain repair options in plain language and advise customers.
• Document visit notes and follow-up actions clearly.
• Assist with heat pump, A/C, furnaces, water heaters installations when needed.
• Keep your vehicle, tools, and workspace organized and safe.
• Report damaged tools or vehicle issues promptly.
• Work safely and follow company policies and break requirements.
• Join meetings and assist with other assigned tasks.

GreenSavers is hiring an HVAC Maintenance Technician in Portland. We offer training and hands-on experience to help you learn the trade and explore where you want to go next—whether that’s service work or installation.

ABOUT THE JOB

You’ll build your foundation through scheduled maintenance visits at customers’ homes as part of our Home Performance Plan (HPP). You’ll learn the equipment, check and maintain systems, spot problems, and explain your findings to customers. You’ll report to the Service Lead and also work alongside our HVAC installation crews when needed, from a few hours to several days in a row. That mix gives you experience with both caring for existing systems and putting new ones in.

This is a full-time, hourly job with local travel around Portland. Some days may call for a longer shift.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Show up on time for scheduled visits and check and maintain the heating, cooling, and water-heating equipment covered by each appointment.
  
• Spot worn parts, equipment problems, and repairs that may be needed. Let the customer and Production team know what you find.
  
• Explain repair, material, or replacement options in plain language so customers understand their choices.
  
• Write clear, accurate notes about each visit, including the work completed and any follow-up needed.
  
• Lend a hand on installations of heat pumps, air conditioners, furnaces, air handlers, and water heaters—including heat pump and tankless models—and systems that combine this equipment.
  
• Keep your work vehicle stocked and your tools, materials, shop, and work areas clean, safe, and organized.
  
• Let your lead know right away about damaged tools, missing supplies, or vehicle problems.
  
• Work safely, use the required protective gear, and follow company policies, schedules, and break requirements.
  
• Treat customers, their homes, and your coworkers with respect. Join Production meetings and pitch in with other assigned work.
  

Requirements

• Experience in construction or maintenance, or experience using hand and power tools. Bring mechanical curiosity and a willingness to learn—we’ll help you build your HVAC skills.
  
• The ability to talk with customers, explain what you find, and answer questions clearly and respectfully.
  
• A dependable, organized approach: show up on time, manage your appointments, and work well on your own or with a crew. Be ready for occasional longer shifts.
  
• A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, plus a commitment to working safely and following company policies.
  

THE PHYSICAL SIDE OF THE JOB

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance.
  
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders for extended periods; safely use hand and power tools.
  
• Work in customer homes, varying weather conditions, confined spaces, and at heights as needed.
  

HELPFUL, BUT NOT REQUIRED

• HVAC maintenance or installation experience is a plus, but you don’t need to come in knowing it all.
  
• Spanish language skills are a plus.
