Job summary

Daikin Applied is seeking a full-time HVAC Journeyman to service a range of commercial and industrial equipment in the South Bend area. You’ll inspect, test, repair, and maintain chillers, rooftop units, boilers, and other systems with emphasis on safety and quality.

You will mentor apprentices, complete diagnostics and repairs, and contribute to preventative maintenance programs while following OSHA guidelines. Apply with a strong technical background and union-certified credentials.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required.
• EPA approved Universal Technician Certification (preferred).
• OSHA 10 certification (preferred).
• Current first aid / CPR cert (preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED and HVAC training are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality (chillers, rooftop units, fan coils, AHUs).
• Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.
• Maintain and inspect equipment to prevent breakdowns or callbacks.
• Conduct diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment.
• Complete warranty service inspections and verification of functionality.
• Educate customers on proper use, maintenance schedules, and manuals.
• Lead and mentor apprentices during rebuilds and retrofits of commercial HVAC units.
• Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, and reports timely.
• Download programs into equipment and analyze trend data for performance.
• Participate in training modules and maintain certifications.

Location: South Bend, IN

Your Responsibilities:

• Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality including but not limited to chillers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes
• Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
• Maintain and inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
• Perform intermediate and advanced independent diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment
• Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality of all commercial HVAC equipment
• Educate technical and non-technical customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual usage
• Lead and participate in the rebuild and retrofit of commercial HVAC level units including the direction of apprentice level technicians through hands-on demonstration of the necessary steps
• Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner
• Download programs into commercial HVAC equipment and Micro controllers and analyze chiller trend data to ensure optimal performance
• Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, and off-site learning modules
• Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets
• Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are always upheld
• Complete jobsite hazard assessment prior to initiating service and adhere to Daikin Applied and customer safety policies and OSHA guidelines

Your Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Associates Degree or technical school HVAC certification (preferred)
• 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Accepted as Journeyman by the Local Union 440
• Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
• Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
• Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required
• Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians
• EPA approved Universal Technician Certification (preferred)
• OSHA 10 certification (preferred)
• Current first aid / CPR card (preferred)

The expected hourly rate for this position is $53.00 in IN. The rate is subject to the amount outlined in the CBA and could change based on the level offered. Benefits are provided through a local labor union and aligned to the CBA
