Northeast Community College is seeking an individual to fill an HVAC Instructor position at the Norfolk campus.
This position is an in-person, on campus faculty position.
Under minimal supervision, the HVAC Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in HVACR technology across a variety of instructional formats and locations. The instructor will support student learning and success while developing and maintaining curriculum aligned with industry standards and workforce needs.
Instructional emphasis includes residential, commercial, and industrial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems; system installation, design, and maintenance; electrical components and controls; airflow distribution and psychometrics; refrigerant handling and piping systems; and troubleshooting and repair techniques. The instructor will also integrate safety standards, energy efficiency principles, sustainability practices, and emerging technologies relevant to the HVACR industry.
The instructor must be able to read and interpret technical documents such as safety regulations, HVACR codes, blueprints, and installation manuals. Responsibilities include documenting student progress, maintaining accurate records, and utilizing instructional technologies and tools relevant to the trade.
Additionally, the instructor will collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure a high-quality educational experience for a diverse student population while adhering to the College’s mission, policies, and procedures.
Hours of instruction for this position will be primarily afternoons and evenings, Monday through Thursday, and all day Friday. Morning work hours will be required occasionally.
Education: Requires an associate’s degree in HVACR Technology, Construction Technology, or a closely related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A combination of licensure and/or certification in conjunction with work experience may be considered in the absence of a college degree.
Must hold (or be willing to obtain) EPA 608 Certified, Forklift Certification, National Coalition of Certification Centers Train‑The‑Trainer Certification, and other industry certifications preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three years of hands‑on experience in HVACR installation, maintenance and repair. Experience in residential, commercial and industrial systems preferred.
Applicants selected for an interview will be expected to provide a 10–15-minute teaching presentation that covers the refrigeration cycle and its application in residential HVAC systems to the search committee (students).
