Responsibilities

Job description

Position Summary

This position will report to Nash Plumbing and Mechanical, LLC, a subsidiary of HB Global. SPD Commercial HVAC Install Technician Position Summary Nash Plumbing & Mechanical seeking a skilled Commercial HVAC Install Technician to join our mechanical construction team within the Special Projects Division. This position is responsible for the installation of commercial heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration systems on new construction, renovation, and replacement projects. The ideal candidate has Journeyman level experience installing commercial HVAC equipment and associated piping and components, can work from construction drawings and specifications, and takes pride in completing work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. This is primarily an installation and construction position, rather than a residential or commercial service position.

Primary Responsibilities

Install commercial HVAC equipment including: Air‑handling and Condensing units Rooftop units Chillers, Pumps, and Cooling towers VAV and CAV units Fan coil units, ERV’s, and MAU’s VRF/VRV equipment Exhaust and ventilation equipment Install refrigerant piping systems using ACR copper tubing and approved fittings and joining methods. Perform brazing, nitrogen purging, pressure testing, evacuation, and other refrigerant piping procedures in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer requirements. Install condensate piping, equipment drains, traps, and related HVAC piping and insulation. Assist with hydronic piping, equipment connections, valves, pumps, and accessories where applicable. Install equipment supports, vibration isolation, curbs, hangers, brackets, and other associated components. Coordinate HVAC equipment and piping installations with ductwork, plumbing, electrical, controls, structural, and other trades. Read and interpret: Mechanical construction drawings and details Equipment schedules and submittals Piping diagrams Manufacturer installation instructions Project specifications Lay out equipment and piping installations in the field. Identify potential conflicts, deficiencies, or installation issues and communicate them to the Foreman or Superintendent before proceeding. Assist with HVAC system startup and commissioning activities. Verify equipment installation, piping, electrical connections, controls connections, filters, belts, drains, and other components are ready for startup. Perform basic troubleshooting during installation and startup. Complete assigned work in accordance with project plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and company quality standards.

Safety Responsibilities

Follow all company, OSHA, general contractor, and project‑specific safety requirements. Properly use personal protective equipment and fall‑protection equipment at all times while performing duties. Safely use ladders, lifts, power tools, torches, recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, nitrogen regulators, and other HVAC installation equipment. Maintain clean and orderly work areas. Inspect tools and equipment before use and immediately report unsafe conditions. Participate in toolbox talks, pre‑task planning, and jobsite safety meetings.

Qualifications

Required Journeyman level HVAC installation or mechanical construction experience. Advanced working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and installation practices. Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic trade calculations. Ability to read and understand mechanical construction drawings. Experience installing various types of mechanical piping systems, such as brazed or pressed copper, welded or grooved carbon steel, PVC, HDPE, and stainless steel. Ability to use common HVAC and construction tools safely. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to work effectively as part of a construction team. Ability to communicate clearly with Foremen, Superintendents, project management, and other trades.

Preferred 3+ years of commercial HVAC installation experience. EPA Section 608 Universal certification. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience with VRF/VRV systems, such as City‑Multi and Multi‑V. Experience installing large commercial split systems and packaged equipment. Experience with hydronic HVAC systems and components such as chillers, boilers, pumps, and condensing towers. Familiarity with commercial HVAC controls and BAS systems. Experience with equipment startup and commissioning. Experience working on large commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, government, and similar construction projects.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to: Regularly stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and work from ladders or lifts. Lift and carry tools, materials, and equipment commonly associated with the HVAC trade. Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Work in mechanical rooms, equipment yards, rooftops, and other construction environments. Work at elevated heights using appropriate fall‑protection equipment. Perform physically demanding construction activities throughout the workday.

Work Expectations

Report to work reliably, on time, and prepared to work with the required hand tools on the tool list. Maintain professional conduct on customer and general contractor jobsites. Take pride and ownership of the quality of assigned work. Protect installed equipment and finished construction from damage. Maintain company tools and equipment in good condition. Work productively both independently and under the direction of a Foreman or Superintendent. Coach and mentor apprentices and less‑experienced employees when appropriate. Be willing to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules when required by project conditions. Travel to project locations as required.
