Job summary

Astra Air & Repair in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced HVAC Installation & Service Technician who can diagnose, repair, maintain, and install residential systems while delivering outstanding customer service. This role works with our Licensed HVAC Service Manager to meet safety and quality standards and requires problem-solving, independence, and a commitment to excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of residential HVAC experience.
• EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
• Valid Texas Driver License with acceptable driving record.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience performing both service calls and complete HVAC installations.
• Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose residential HVAC issues efficiently and accurately.
• Repair air conditioning systems, furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, thermostats, and IAQ equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and seasonal tune-ups.
• Troubleshoot electrical, refrigerant, airflow, and mechanical issues.
• Recommend repair or replacement solutions when appropriate.
• Install complete residential HVAC systems per manufacturer specs.
• Start up systems, test, charge refrigerant, and conduct final inspections.
• Ensure installations comply with local codes and company standards.
• Clearly communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations.

Position SummaryThe HVAC Installation & Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing residential HVAC systems while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This individual will work closely with our Licensed HVAC Service Manager to ensure every installation and repair meets Astra Air & Repair's quality and safety standards.

This position is ideal for an experienced technician who is confident in both service and installation work and is looking to grow with a company committed to excellence.

What You'll Do

• Diagnose residential HVAC system issues efficiently and accurately.
• Repair air conditioning systems, furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, thermostats, and indoor air quality equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and seasonal tune-ups.
• Troubleshoot electrical, refrigerant, airflow, and mechanical issues.
• Recommend repair or replacement solutions when appropriate.

HVAC Installations

• Install complete residential HVAC systems according to manufacturer specifications.
• Install condensers, evaporator coils, furnaces, air handlers, thermostats, and related equipment.
• Perform system startups, testing, refrigerant charging, and final quality inspections.
• Ensure all installations comply with local codes and company standards.

Customer Experience

• Clearly communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations.
• Represent Astra Air & Repair with professionalism and integrity.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow OSHA safety guidelines and company safety procedures.
• Comply with EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling regulations.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment responsibly.
• Complete digital work orders, photos, and service documentation accurately.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of residential HVAC experience.
• EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred).
• Valid Texas Driver License with an acceptable driving record.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience performing both service calls and complete HVAC installations.
• Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, and outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• TDLR Registered or Certified HVAC Technician.
• NATE Certification.
• Experience with mini-split and heat pump systems.
• Experience using Housecall Pro or similar field-service software.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
