Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a skilled HVAC technician to diagnose, maintain and repair commercial HVAC systems at the McEntire Joint National Guard base in Columbia, SC. The role covers preventative maintenance, belt and filter changes, and repair of related equipment.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or related trade experience, be CFC certified, and able to operate energy management software.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or trade training related to HVAC maintenance.
• Knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and systems.
• CFC certification is required.
• Ability to operate a computer and energy management systems software.
• Valid South Carolina driver's license is required.
• Background check and security clearance eligibility per DOD.
• Knowledge of facilities and infrastructural systems.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs and perform heavy manual work as needed.
• Understanding HVAC concepts and applications.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and use good judgement.
• Knowledge of industrial maintenance practices and building codes.
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
• Scissor lift or aerial bucket use may be required.
• Some overnight travel or training may be needed.
• On-call and emergency on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain, test, overhaul and repair HVAC systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, change belts and filters.
• Maintain and troubleshoot air compressors and refrigeration equipment.
• Operate welding and soldering equipment to fabricate/repair metals.
• Operate energy management systems and related controls.
• Perform corrosion control maintenance on equipment.
• Adhere to safety practices relevant to the work area.
• Use tools and equipment required for the trade.
• Follow instructions, blueprints, plans and specifications.
• Perform arithmetic and communicate effectively.
