Job summary

Hooper, a long-standing Wisconsin-based contractor, is seeking an HVAC Designer to craft layout and design for HVAC systems on design-build projects, ensuring code compliance and alignment with scope.

Responsibilities include ductwork, piping, controls design; construction documents; HVAC calculations; trade coordination; approvals; and RFIs support. Office-based in Wisconsin with regular collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience developing 2D and 3D drawings.
• Associate degree in drafting design or 4 years’ equivalent mechanical trades experience.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with construction software.
• Experience with AutoCAD, NAVISworks, REVIT or REVIT MEP; REVIT proficiency preferred.
• Team-oriented, able to work on multiple projects in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems (ductwork, piping, controls) in compliance with codes and project scope.
• Prepare detailed construction documents, schedules, details, ductwork and piping specs.
• Perform HVAC calculations using modeling software and size ductwork and piping.
• Coordinate layouts with other trades to ensure proper integration.
• Obtain approvals from architects, engineers, owners and authorities; maintain project records.
• Communicate with stakeholders to resolve design issues and assist with RFIs.

The HVAC Designer is responsible for the layout and design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in compliance with all applicable government codes and standards. Ensures all designs aligned with the scope, specifications, and requirements of each assigned contract.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design comprehensive HVAC systems (including ductwork, piping, controls) for design-build projects, adhering to local, state, and national codes, as well as recommended design practices, standards, and guidelines.
• Prepare detailed construction documents, schedules, details, ductwork and piping specifications.
• Performa HVAC calculations using computer aided modeling software as well as size ductwork and piping.
• Coordinates design layouts with other trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to ensure proper system integration and fit within the building structure.
• Secures necessary approvals from architects, engineers, owners, local authorities, and insurance companies; maintains organized project records throughout the design process.
• Communicate with stakeholders to resolve design issues, manage change orders, and assist with technical documentation such as RFIs.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience: Preferred 2 years with developing 2D and 3D drawings
• Education: 2-year associates degree in drafting design or 4 years’ equivalent experience in mechanical trades
• Technical Skills: Analytical skills, knowledge of construction industry software programs
• Behavioral Skills: Comfortable working in a team environment with multiple ongoing projects
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience with AutoCAD, NAVIS works, REVIT, REVIT MEP, or other relevant software. REVIT proficiency is preferred.

Description of Physical Working Environment:

• Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to field locations or corporate meetings.
• May require lifting of supply boxes or materials up to 30 lbs.
