Job summary

Hooper, a Wisconsin-based contractor, is seeking an HVAC Designer to layout and design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for design-build projects in compliance with codes and contract requirements.

The role involves preparing construction documents, performing HVAC calculations, and coordinating with trades to ensure proper system integration within building structures. Office-based with some travel to field locations.

Qualifications

• Requires 2 years minimum developing 2D and 3D drawings.
• Associate degree in drafting design or 4 years’ equivalent mechanical trades experience preferred.
• Proficient in analytical thinking and construction software programs.
• Experience collaborating with multiple trades and project teams.

Responsibilities

• Design comprehensive HVAC systems (ductwork, piping, controls) for design-build projects.
• Prepare detailed construction documents, schedules, details, ductwork and piping specifications.
• Perform HVAC calculations using modeling software and size ductwork and piping.
• Coordinate design layouts with HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades for proper fit.
• Obtain approvals from architects, engineers, owners, local authorities, and insurers; maintain project records.
• Communicate with stakeholders to resolve design issues and manage RFIs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The HVAC Designer is responsible for the layout and design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in compliance with all applicable government codes and standards. Ensures all designs aligned with the scope, specifications, and requirements of each assigned contract.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design comprehensive HVAC systems (including ductwork, piping, controls) for design-build projects, adhering to local, state, and national codes, as well as recommended design practices, standards, and guidelines.
• Prepare detailed construction documents, schedules, details, ductwork and piping specifications.
• Performa HVAC calculations using computer aided modeling software as well as size ductwork and piping.
• Coordinates design layouts with other trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to ensure proper system integration and fit within the building structure.
• Secures necessary approvals from architects, engineers, owners, local authorities, and insurance companies; maintains organized project records throughout the design process.
• Communicate with stakeholders to resolve design issues, manage change orders, and assist with technical documentation such as RFIs.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience: Preferred 2 years with developing 2D and 3D drawings
• Education: 2-year associates degree in drafting design or 4 years’ equivalent experience in mechanical trades
• Technical Skills: Analytical skills, knowledge of construction industry software programs
• Behavioral Skills: Comfortable working in a team environment with multiple ongoing projects
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience with AutoCAD, NAVIS works, REVIT, REVIT MEP, or other relevant software. REVIT proficiency is preferred.

Description of Physical Working Environment:

• Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to field locations or corporate meetings.
• May require lifting of supply boxes or materials up to 30 lbs.
