Job summary

USA Mechanical & Energy Service in East Granby, CT seeks a Mid-Level HVAC Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and implement heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing for commercial, industrial facilities. This in-house role involves independent design tasks and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

You will manage HVAC design tasks, perform load calculations, develop CAD/BIM layouts, ensure code compliance, coordinate with other disciplines, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years of HVAC engineering experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC load calculation software.
• Strong understanding of thermal systems, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics.
• Experience designing HVAC & plumbing systems for commercial or industrial buildings.
• Ability to interpret and apply building codes and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, and control systems for new construction and retrofit projects.
• Perform load calculations (heating and cooling), equipment sizing, and system selection.
• Develop and review HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, and equipment schedules using CAD/BIM tools.
• Develop and review plumbing layouts, sanitary & waste, venting, and domestic water.
• Prepare construction documents, specifications, and design narratives for proposals.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, NEC, local building codes).
• Coordinate HVAC designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction.
• Support commissioning activities and assist with field inspections and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate system performance, energy efficiency, and life-cycle costs.
• Mentor entry-level engineers and contribute to technical reviews.
