General Summary
This is an entry level Counter Sales position. The duties include answering telephone calls, locating items, servicing customers, using computer to generate invoice, loading items in a customer's vehicle and delivering product to customer location.
Job Duties
- Provide fast and friendly customer service by following "Customer First" standards, in person or over the telephone.
- Display a positive attitude by greeting customers as they enter the branch.
- Ensure commitments made to customers meet or exceed expectations. Enter customer orders in the system the same day the order is received.
- Pull customer orders from the warehouse and load into company delivery truck, customer vehicle or stage pickup by using safe material handling procedures.
- Produce and complete paperwork accurately including invoices, C.O.D.s, special orders, vendor purchase orders, shipping and receiving paperwork.
- Ensure all product leaving the branch is billed. Collect payment via cash or credit card and follow all money handling procedures.
- Process all customer returns and warranties on the same day they are received.
- Maintain the self‑service area by restocking, rotating displays and tidying the area.
- Create and maintain branch displays that support corporate programs and the branch's strengths and markets.
- Use available resources to locate product for customers and provide updates on delivery or back‑ordered items.
- Immediately report damage, safety issues, and accidents to a supervisor.
- Use sales tactics to promote special items or sales. Keep up to date with all new product information, educate customers, and make recommendations.
- Perform warehouse duties when necessary, including clearing debris, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, emptying trash, tidying shelves, and loading/unloading by hand or with material‑handling equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping the workstation neat and orderly.
- Represent the company professionally by wearing the approved uniform and following grooming standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education and Qualifications
- Basic understanding of heating and cooling systems, parts and supplies is preferred but not required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the general public and customers.
- Strong attitude and interpersonal skills necessary to service customers in the branch, on the telephone, or at the delivery site.
- Proficiency operating a computer and using Prophet 21.
- Basic math skills, including calculating markup, gross margin, and understanding the impact on sales and expenses.
- Ability to read invoices, catalogs, stock numbers, and descriptions to accurately identify items.
- Must be 18 years of age or older to operate a forklift.
Work Environment
Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. The role requires bending, climbing, movement, and lifting during physical loading/unloading of trucks and stocking products. Employees may be exposed to extreme cold and heat. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday and some Saturdays (half day). This is a safety‑sensitive position requiring pre‑employment screening.
