Job summary

Jobtailor in Maple Grove, MN is seeking a skilled Controls Technician to support customer relationships while diagnosing and commissioning building automation systems. The role centers on DDC control, database reviews, and performing preventative maintenance across HVAC installations.

You will work with Niagara AX/4 platforms and multiple protocols including BACnet and Modbus to ensure systems operate to spec.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Experience in BAS, HVAC, or related industry preferred.
• Proficiency with test instruments and calibration tools.
• Niagara AX or Niagara 4 certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide responsive and professional customer service to build and maintain long‑term customer relationships
• Identify, analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot direct digital control systems
• Perform preventative maintenance, commissioning, and modifications as needed by customers
• Maintain building automation systems by inspecting logs, reports, and programming
• Provide controls technical support to HVAC technicians
• Create and implement programming and graphics for installations
• Commission controls installations and verify compliance with specifications
• Train and follow‑up with customers and operations personnel
• Complete work orders and review with customers for accuracy
• Continually seek improvements in processes and customer service

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to lift 50lbs with or without an accommodation
• Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
• Experience in BAS, HVAC, or related industry (preferred)
• Proficiency with test instruments and calibration tools
• Competency in operation of engineering/commissioning tools
• DDC controllers and field devices experience
• BACnet protocol fundamentals knowledge
• Ability to understand written sequences of operation
• Ability to read low voltage wiring diagrams and controls flow diagrams
• Niagara AX and/or Niagara 4 certification (preferred)
• Experience with integration protocols such as: BACnet MST / IP, LON, Modbus TCP / RTU, Ethernet OIP, MQTT, or SQL (preferred)
• Strong computer skills, including networking fundamentals
