Job summary

EMI is seeking an HVAC Controls Technician for Fort Jackson to monitor and adjust complex HVAC and building automation systems. You will interpret manuals, troubleshoot EMCS components, and ensure safe, efficient operation on military facilities.

Responsibilities include diagnosing program logic, implementing system modifications, and maintaining control software with a focus on reliability and compliance. Strong knowledge of psychometrics and safety is required.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of EMCS-related setup, troubleshooting, repair and calibration experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, modifying and repairing HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Experience installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and replacing control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with facility control platforms (Johnson Controls, Metasys, Distech).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and adjust HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Design and implement modifications to program interrelations in consultation with senior staff.
  • Monitor program operation and diagnose logic/coding errors.
  • Implement or maintain portions of a scientific programming project using established techniques.

Job description

HVAC Controls Technician – U.S. Army Base Fort Jackson

Heating Ventilation and Air- Conditioning (HVAC) Controls Technician applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve routine problems by interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents. Work requires Building Automation to set up, troubleshoot, repair, test and calibrate electronic components for EMCS (Energy Management Control System) computer control; troubleshoot, maintain, modify and repair heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and equipment. Building Automation will have a thorough understanding of Psychometrics, the psychometric chart as it relates to air temperature and humidity. Building Automation recognizes probable interactions of other related programs with the assigned program(s) and is familiar with related system software and computer equipment. The programs developed or modified typically are linked to several other programs in that the output of one becomes the input for another. Solves conventional programming problems. This position may provide technical guidance to lower level Programmers, Technicians and Mechanics.

Salary

$100,000 - $110,000 (DOE) plus employer-paid insurance!

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and adjust the full range of heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment
  • Design and implement modifications to the interrelation of files and records within programs in consultation with higher level staff
  • Monitor the operation of assigned programs and respond to problems by diagnosing and correcting errors in logic and coding
  • Implement and/or maintain assigned portions of a scientific programming project, applying established scientific programming techniques to well-defined mathematical, statistical, engineering or other scientific problems

  • Knowledge and proficiency of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial grade HVAC equipment
  • Knowledge of various energy management systems, heating, ventilation, systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including indoor air monitoring equipment and interpreting resulting data, standards for design and construction, air conditioning and heating codes, hazards and safety precautions
  • Practice workplace safety in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years of experience setting up, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and calibrating electronic components for EMCS (Energy Management Control System) computer control
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, modifying and repairing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and equipment
  • Experience installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and replacing control systems
  • Demonstrated experience with Johnson Controls Facility Explorer (Niagara 4), CCT, Metasys Platforms, and Distech
  • Knowledge of other platforms such as Alerton, Inet, and Hvac Pro (N2) is a plus
  • Must be able to obtain an N4 Certification if not already held
  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness and ability to obtain one
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
