Job summary

Nova Southwestern University seeks a Maintenance Technician with 3+ years of HVAC experience to support building automation and controls. You will install, repair, and calibrate HVAC systems, working 24/7 on-call and rotating shifts as needed.

The role requires reading drawings, HVAC knowledge, and proficiency with BAS software. High school diploma or equivalent is required, with strong problem-solving and teamwork skills. This is an hourly, non-exempt position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration.
• Working knowledge of Internet, Email, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
• Knowledgeable and technically skilled in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, cooling/refrigeration and kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities

• Installs, repairs, adjusts, troubleshoots, services and maintains electric and pneumatic control systems for HVAC and related equipment.
• Conducts tests of equipment to determine malfunctions and repairs as necessary.
• Monitors and controls temperatures, humidity and air pressurization flow rate as directed by supervisor.
• Researches and orders necessary parts and supplies for maintenance of equipment.
• Instructs and advises users on proper operation of equipment.
• Sets up and runs building trends as directed.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Primary Purpose:

Provides support to the department by assisting in managing building automation projects, field adjustments, repairs and change out of existing mechanical system controls, control valves, variable air volume (VAV) and all related mechanical controls issues.

Essential Job Functions:

• Installs, repairs, adjusts, troubleshoots, services and maintains electric and pneumatic control systems for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, humidity, laboratory equipment, including calibration of related instruments, gauges and controls.
• Conducts tests of equipment to determine any malfunctions and repairs as necessary.
• Monitors and controls temperatures, humidity and air pressurization flow rate as directed by supervisor.

• Instructs and advises users on proper operation of equipment.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

• Available on call 24/7 for University emergencies.
• Work rotational shifts, (days, nights, weekends and holidays).
• Work overtime as needed.
• Participates in the on-call rotation.

Job Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigeration.
• Working knowledge of Internet, Email, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
• Knowledgeable and technically skilled in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, cooling/refrigeration and kitchen equipment.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
• Must be able to safely lift 85 pounds.
• Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to pipes, wiring and equipment.
• Must be able to handle a variety of hand and power tools.
• Near-visual acuity needed to read equipment diagrams and inspect parts.
• Depth perception, field of vision and color vision needed in fitting and installing parts.
• Exposed to wet and very hot conditions.
• Exposed to noise and vibration from operating machinery.
• Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment.
• Must be able to reach overhead.
• May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.

Required Certifications/Licensures:

Have and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License with no more than three (3) points.

Required Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Required Experience:

Three (3) or more year's of air conditioning experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three (3) or more year's experience in the HVAC controls industry including building automation systems, direct digital control (DDC), systems commissioning, software operation, integration and calibration with electronic, pneumatic, and building controls.
• Experience working with computer systems including building automation software (BAS) and Windows.
• EPA Card
