Job summary

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority seeks an HVAC Mechanic Apprentice to join the Trades Apprentice Employment Program at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). The role offers on‑the‑job and classroom training to develop into a licensed journey level HVAC Mechanic.

Responsibilities include learning troubleshooting, using schematics and tools, and assisting journey-level mechanics with repairs, preventive maintenance, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old at hire.
• Eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to learn HVAC knowledge and progression schedule.
• Ability to drive a pickup truck and use related tools.
• Ability to work safely and follow safety rules.
• Ability to speak and write effectively.
• Computer use and time/attendance systems familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC problems, from basic to proficient levels.
• Learn to use manuals, diagrams, and trade tools.
• Assist journey-level HVAC Mechanics with tools, transport, and site work.
• With guidance, repair electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls; diagnose issues; perform maintenance.
• Understand EPA refrigerant handling regulations and trade standards.
• Maintain work orders, preventive maintenance, and basic shop tasks.
• Operate vehicle on airport grounds to reach sites and suppliers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
