In this position...

Ford Motor company is seeking candidates for a position as Cell Development Engineer/Scientist in Ford’s Battery Center for Excellence in Dearborn, Michigan. Battery technology is recognized as the linchpin in Ford’s pivotal initiative to Lead the Electrification Revolution.

Ford Ion Park is responsible for the delivery of innovative advanced battery cell technology to meet this objective.

Qualifications

You'll have...

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical or Equivalent), Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Applied Physics or Equivalent related to Energy Storage
  • 3+ years of experience in development of advanced battery cell technologies (graduate studies can be considered)
  • 1+ years of experience in the following battery categories: solid state batteries, sulfide solid electrolytes synthesis and/or testing, advanced cathodes/anodes, safety characterization, pilot line design and assembly
  • Non-citizens must have the ability to receive a license to legally work with Export Controlled technology in the USA.
  • Strongly self-motivated, detail oriented, and willingness to learn new knowledge and technology.
  • Demonstrated record of team-oriented research and engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken)

Even better, you may have...

  • Masters (MS) or Doctorate (PhD) Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Equivalent), Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Applied Physics or Equivalent related to Energy Storage
  • 10+ Years of Experience in development of advanced battery cell technologies (graduate studies can be considered)
  • Previous experience working in a major high-volume battery cell supplier and/or automotive OEM or Tier I supplier in a research, production, or development role involving energy storage
  • Advanced knowledge of battery cell-level performance and life cycle characterization methods and associated dedicated test equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following battery categories: solid state batteries, sulfide solid electrolytes synthesis and/or testing, advanced cathodes/anodes, safety characterization, pilot line design and assembly.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

  • Develop, support and conduct solid state battery electrode/separator & cell development activity internal to Ford
  • Develop and conduct performance characterizations of next generation battery materials, electrodes/separators and cells
  • Develop and conduct lab scale chalcogenide separator material synthesis and evaluation
  • Develop electrode/separator & cell fabrication methods needed to transfer new solid-state battery chemistries from proof of concept to pilot scale manufacturing:
  • Participate in the development and execution of quality control methods necessary to fabricate reproducible, high-quality cells.
  • Identify and develop battery material, electrode, cell or pack level requirements for vehicle applications
