Job summary

South Piedmont Community College seeks an Humanities Adjunct Instructor to provide quality learning opportunities across asynchronous and synchronous modalities. Courses may include HUM-115, HUM-110, HUM-130, HUM-120, and others based on credential needs.

Assignments may be scheduled at Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online with flexible daytime, evening, and weekend options. Emphasis on student success and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a completed Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
• Community college teaching experience preferred.
• Online teaching experience preferred.
• All SPCC courses use Canvas as a course delivery system; must complete Canvas training or provide proof of Canvas experience.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit commitment to the college’s mission, vision, values, and learning outcomes.
• Deliver curriculum using effective learning strategies to promote student success.
• Teach in online, hybrid, and classroom settings across day, evening, and weekend.
• Contribute to assessment of learning outcomes at the course level.
• Maintain current class records and submit reports on time.
• Ensure syllabi and courses are set up by deadlines and align with supervisor guidance.

The Humanities Adjunct Instructor at South Piedmont Community College provides quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations in the School of Arts and Sciences. Class offerings may include HUM-115 (Critical Thinking), HUM-110 (Technology and Society), HUM-130 (Myth and Human Culture), HUM-120 (Cultural Studies), and/or other courses, depending on instructor credentials and departmental needs.

Classes are offered in asynchronous and synchronous modalities. Synchronous teaching assignments may be scheduled at the Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online, with flexible scheduling options across daytime, evening, and weekend based on departmental needs and instructor availability.

• Facilitate and deliver curriculum using effective learning strategies that promote student success in a learning-centered environment.

• Select and use appropriate learning materials and resources, including library resources, equipment, and supplies to enhance learning and to maintain program currency

• Demonstrate high-level professionalism in developing and/or implementing long- and short-range plans in accordance with the philosophy of a learning-centered college
• Continue professional development for the improvement of self and the program to meet the needs of a learning-centered college
• Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position
• Provide accessibility to students and colleagues as expected in a learning-centered college
• Maintain and submit all required class records and/or reports on time
• Ensure courses and syllabi are set up by applicable deadlines as established by your supervisor
• Accept teaching assignments scheduled at the Monroe campus, Polkton campus, or online, with flexible scheduling options across daytime, evening, and weekend based on departmental needs and instructor availability.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the dean, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in the teaching discipline OR a completed Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.

• All SPCC courses use Canvas as a course delivery system. Upon hiring, adjuncts must successfully complete Canvas training experience or provide documented proof of Canvas experience.
