Job summary

Career Team is seeking a Humanitarian Support Worker (DRE WEX) for Volunteers of America Western Washington in Snohomish County, WA. This 9-month, on-site disaster relief role offers an hourly pay range of $23.06 to $31.47.

You will maintain client files, prepare recovery reports, conduct intake, support care coordination, and collaborate with local agencies to restore communities after disasters.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with individuals experiencing trauma and stress
  • Proficiency with computer applications and database systems
  • Bilingual capabilities preferred (English/Spanish or other community languages)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Position Overview

Title: Humanitarian Support Worker (DRE WEX Position) – VOAWW (Volunteers of America Western Washington)
Reports To: Team Lead
Location: Snohomish County, WA
Employment Type/FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt, Disaster Relief Employment (DRE)
Hourly Compensation Range: $23.06–$31.47 per hour
Position Duration: 9 months (temporary disaster relief position)
Work Setting: 100% onsite at VOAWW

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and organize client files and recovery documentation
  • Prepare reports on disaster recovery services and client outcomes
  • Perform data entry and database management for disaster case tracking
  • Support administrative functions of disaster recovery operations
  • Conduct client intake and assessment for disaster‑impacted households
  • Perform outreach to flood‑impacted households and businesses
  • Conduct assessments to identify immediate and long‑term recovery needs
  • Provide disaster care coordination support to affected individuals and families
  • Develop individualized recovery plans in collaboration with clients
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with program standards
  • Coordinate referrals to additional recovery resources and services
  • Collaborate with local agencies, nonprofit organizations, and government partners
  • Participate in disaster recovery meetings and community planning sessions
  • Support community outreach efforts in disaster‑affected areas
  • Assist with coordination between various recovery service providers
  • Support communication efforts with disaster‑impacted communities
  • Approach each day and task with a "ZAG" mindset
  • Other duties and projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with individuals experiencing trauma and stress
  • Proficiency with computer applications and database systems
  • Bilingual capabilities preferred (English/Spanish or other community languages)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Eligibility Criteria
  • Has been terminated, laid off, or received a notice of termination or layoff; OR
  • Has been temporarily or permanently laid off as a consequence of emergency or disaster conditions related to recent flooding; OR
  • Was self‑employed but is now unemployed as a result of the economic impact of emergency or disaster conditions related to recent flooding; OR
  • Is a military service member recently discharged or released under other than dishonorable conditions; OR
  • Is a military spouse who experienced a PCS or ETS in the last 6 months; OR
  • Up until recently relied on another immediate family member for financial support and no longer has that support; OR
  • Has been unemployed for longer than 27 weeks
