AHEC is a department within Morsani College of Medicine which reports to the VP of Research. With a $2.7 M budget, two affiliated Centers (Gulfcoast North and Gulfcoast South AHEC), six full-time personnel, AHEC provides comprehensive cessation services to over 3,000 clients/year; training to 750 health professional students and 300 providers per year; and systems change to academic institutions, professional trade organizations, health care facilities, and employers throughout a nine-county service area. USF AHEC is a member of the Florida AHEC Network, representing five universities and ten community-based centers statewide.
The Human Services Practitioner position is employed by USF AHEC Tobacco Cessation Program to support cessation services and interventions with individuals and groups addicted to tobacco or health care workers treating tobacco-dependent patients. Responsibilities include applying professional training to assist with tobacco interventions, conducting screenings, providing interventions, and training. The role involves interaction with adult clients, the elderly, and institutional staff. Interventions may include distributing nicotine replacement products via mail, pre-registering clients into cessation programs, and preparing materials for groups. The practitioner will provide direct client assistance or serve as a case manager, with oversight from the Program Director or Assistant Director. Additional administrative duties may be assigned to meet grant requirements.
Requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Bachelor’s degree candidates must have at least two years of applicable experience; Master’s degree may substitute for experience. Specific certifications or licensures may be required or preferred. Meeting the requirements of SB 1310, which allows experience to substitute for certain educational requirements, is necessary.
