Job summary

Pay Schedule I, Grade 21, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

Under close supervision, functions as a member of the support services unit whose mission is to secure and maximize resources for foster care and independent living youth by assisting social workers in the completion of non-clinical case management. This position is responsible for providing a variety of supportive services, including focusing on improving and documenting parenting and life skills with the hope of promoting reunification.

Examples of Essential Duties

Supervise family visitation to provide safety of the child(ren) and direction to the parents. Negotiate visitation schedule with social workers, parents, and/or foster care providers.

Transport children and/or families safely and timely to appointments that will provide them with needed services to enhance the parent/child relationship and provide customer service.

Document services offered, assistance provided, and progress of clients. Ensure that documentation is updated in CJAMS within 72 hours of client contact.

Provide administrative support to Children Services, including but not limited to: phone coverage, mail distribution, preparing packets for training, filing, scanning documents, and database entry.

Attend court review hearing, family team decision meetings, and medical or therapeutic appointments with clients.

Keep all parties informed of case status. Provide monthly stats. Attend all mandatory meetings and training courses.

Emergency Operations: Participates as needed in agency’s mandated obligation to provide mass care and shelter under direction of County or State Emergency Operations Center.

Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate in arts degree in a social science, behavioral science.

Experience in individual, group, or family counseling or in intake and referral work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level):

  • Basic knowledge of interviewing techniques.

  • Skill in performing simple mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Writing skill necessary to complete simple application forms and reports.

  • Ability to obtain information from clients and to compile information into case records.

  • Ability to communicate orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to understand Federal, State, and local regulations, program policies and procedures, to apply them to specific client situations, and to compute the amounts of grants to clients.

  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records and to prepare summary reports.

  • Ability to use a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance):

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations, policies, and procedures relating to assigned programs.

  • Knowledge of community services and other agency programs for referral.

  • Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the performance of duties.

  • Skill in obtaining information from clients and applying program requirements to determine eligibility.

  • Skill in computing amounts of grants.

  • Skill in maintaining accurate records and preparing summary reports.

  • Ability to assist human services professionals with case management.

  • Ability to perform basic assessment of client needs for referral purposes.

  • Ability to recognize clients in crisis and take appropriate action.

  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
