Job summary

Field AI seeks a Human-Robot Interaction & Product Design Engineer to shape hardware aesthetics and interaction for robotic systems. You will design form/CMF, select displays, audio and sensors, and define motion expressiveness while ensuring manufacturability and reliability.

You will collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Computing, Product, and UX teams, balancing performance with durability and field constraints. Onsite in Irvine, CA, with exposure to cross-functional hardware challenges.

Qualifications

• Education in HRI, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial Design or related field.
• At least 3+ years of hands-on experience in industrial/product design, audio-visual systems or robotics.
• Experience selecting and specifying speakers, microphones, displays, and lighting for hardware products.
• Comfort balancing SWaP and systems integration across AV and electromechanical components.
• Experience writing scripts/tools to validate display startup, connectivity, and rendering.
• End-to-end industrial design experience including CMF and rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Drive form, shape and CMF decisions defining how the robot looks and feels.
• Shape interaction and expressiveness across displays, audio, and movement for industrial vs commercial/public settings.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Computing, Product, UX, and Field Ops teams to implement features.
• Balance performance, durability, manufacturability and SWaP across environments from rugged sites to public settings.
• Write scripts to validate display boot-up, onboard compute connectivity, and correct rendering.
