County of Maui is seeking an HR Specialist Trainee to learn and perform foundational human resources tasks within the Recruitment section. You will receive orientation and training across HR functions while supporting recruitment, examination, and selection activities in accordance with civil service rules.
The role involves assisting with posting announcements, reviewing applications, and supporting assessments and outreach activities under close supervision.
This position is assigned to the Recruitment section and performs a variety of duties in support of recruitment, examination, and selection activities conducted in accordance with applicable civil service laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the development and posting of recruitment announcements; reviewing applications to determine whether applicants meet established minimum qualification requirements; assisting with the development, administration, and evaluation of assessments and other selection procedures; providing information and assistance to applicants and departments regarding recruitment and civil service processes; assisting with recruitment and outreach activities; maintaining recruitment and assessment records; and performing other related duties as required.
Performs as a trainee in all of the major functional areas of human resources management; receives orientation in, and learns the principles, techniques, laws, methodology, and work processes pertinent to each field; and performs other related duties as required.
This class differs from the Human Resources Specialist I in that the Human Resources Specialist Trainee performs as a trainee in learning the principles, techniques, laws, methodology, and work processes pertinent to human resources management; whereas the Human Resources Specialist I performs selected assignments under close supervision requiring some application of the principles, techniques, and concepts pertinent to such work.The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in industrial relations, public or business administration, political science, psychology or a related field.
Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Hawaii (equivalent to Hawaii Type 3).
